Privateer is a 47 ft. Ex-USCG buoy tender on loan from the NYC DOT, Staten Island ferry. Many of our boats have unique attributes but what makes Privateer unique is that she has a pilothouse. Harbor school can operate the boat in any weather, and the crew will protect from the elements. Having Privateer allows us to be on the water all year round. Another great attribute is Privateer has the A-Frame in the stern of the vessel. The crane is hydraulically operated, has a capacity of 5,000 lbs. It helps out BOP a lot with taking out and putting in oyster cages. Privateer also has a Z- Drive. A Z- Drive is a propeller mounted on a pod that can turn 360 degrees. The Z- Drive Privateer is highly maneuverable and can go almost anywhere. Also, there is no need for a rudder and gives the vessel to move in any direction.
