Getting back on the water...

There are many things that quarantine stops us from doing. This is an interesting time in history in which quarantine is being forced upon us. It changes life for what it is and gets in the way of so many things in which you enjoyed doing on a daily basis. One of those things is being able to go to school everyday on the water. Being in an environment that is near the water can truly be the best learning experience I have ever had before. Being able to learn and be on the water is one of the best things I have ever seen a high school offer to its students. The fact that the time at this one in a million school is being limited from our in person education is one of the hardest things to have to deal with during quarantine. I like the fact that my classes are mostly on the water and I get to go to a class in which I can make a career of. In class we spend a lot of our time learning by first hand experience on the boats we have in our school. Right before quarantine had started my junior Vessel Operations class had been working to achieve our CPR certifications for Adult and pedantic. We were working on this in school during our last week before the quarantine started. We were told on the last week that from next week forward to the end of the year that we would spend the remainder of our year being out on the boats almost everyday; then quarantine started and the plan for the remainder of the school year was up in the air. That was one of the hardest things to ever have to contemplate about going into quarantine. We were supposed to start our program working with the United States Coast Guard and get an experience to be able to work with them and see the quality of their seamanship and their honor as soldiers of the United States military. That was one thing that I have been looking forward to for a while even before quarantine had started. This opportunity was the one of the things I was looking forward too during the junior year for Vessel Operations. During the junior year of our class we were supposed to have the opportunity to be on the water and have the most first hand learning of our Harbor School career before we go to look for internships our senior year. Though it does suck to not be able to go back to school due to COVID-19 it does make sense for the safety and wellness of people of the society and the New York Harbor School. We will never get the time back that we lost during quarantine, but all we can do is move forward and hope for the best during our fall semester as seniors.
