Hawaii

During the summer, my family and I went on vacation to Hawaii. We went to the main island, Oahu, and the biggest island, the Island of Hawaii. We spent two weeks on the Hawaiian islands before returning home, just in time for the start of the school year.

The trip started off on a bad note, with us missing the plane by a mere 15 minutes due to traffic and construction. Fortunately, we were able to reschedule for a flight the next morning at 7:30AM. We made sure to show up well before then, arriving before 6AM. By 8AM, we were in the air on a 15 hour flight, taking the trip in legs. NYC - Detroit - LA - Honolulu. By 9PM, Hawaiian time, we touched down.

The first week was spent in Honolulu on Oahu. We stayed in a very nice hotel near Waikiki beach, named Queen Kapiolani. During our visit, we went to Pearl Harbor memorial, Waikiki beach, and toured the island’s beaches by car, enjoyed the fresh seafood the pacific had to offer and looked at the stars by night.

The second week was spent on the big island of Hawaii, where we stayed in Kailua-Kona. We visited the beaches, and the active volcanoes at the national park near Hilo. We also visited a botanical garden and observatory.

Being in Hawaii was absolutely beautiful, and if you can get over the constant high humidity, Hawaii is a wonderful place to visit. The sights were amazing, and the water was crystal clear, which is very different compared to the water here in New York City.
