the water we learn on

New York Harbor is one of the most amazing bodies of water on Earth. It has so many different aspects that made it a glorious place to live.

We all know about how New York Harbor was the oyster capital of the world but that brings the question of why was it like that. Well, it's  pretty simple. It had brackish water which oysters thrive in. As well as being very sheltered making it calm enough waters for them to seed but the water was still moving fast to make it a great place for fish to live. All these aspects made the perfect environment for the oyster. That and people had not yet colonized the area. Made it almost limitless for the number of oysters could grow here.

But with them gone it's like NYC with no roads. Chaos, this is where BOP comes in and the CTEs of NY Harbor school they are there to help restore the harbor. What we do in Vessel ops is work with the BOP to drop people off in places they need to go. As well as we drop oyster cages in the water. I would not want to turn this into a list but we work with many people to restore the harbor. You may have seen some of the images that were posted of Grace and Brandon lifting oyster cages.

This day we were getting trained while a photographer came out with us. So when we do go out with BOP to help we can get the job done.
