Missing the water.....
Quarantine has become very stressful for me. We are now in the month of May and I have gotten news that school will not be opening up for the rest of 2020. Something that I am dreadfully missing about school is my favorite class, vessel operations. Truthfully, I miss all aspects of it, from walking to the mast center every week to being on our boats and working in the harbor. These were the months where we were supposed to go underway more often, but now we can’t even leave our houses. One of my favorite memories will always be learning how to drive the boats we had, and also watching my friends learn as well. It always thrilled me to see each other thrive in an interest that we all share. Captain Aaron is an amazing teacher for giving us the opportunities that we had. One specific memory that I am proud of was when I was driving one of our boats, Attractive Nuisance, for the very first time. I was able to work the throttle and steer the vessel all by myself. I think I did pretty well, up until the point where I accidentally bumped into another one of our boats, Indy 7, in the middle of the harbor. But as always, practice makes perfect! These things are what I'm mostly looking forward to when we are able to go back to school. I'm ready to continue to learn how to be an amazing seaman and I am looking forward to expanding my skills as a mariner. One day, when I find myself in the coast guard, I will have Aaron to thank for starting off my journey and teaching me what I need to know to be successful. I await our next, physical, meetings.
