Boston Whalers
Boston Whaler boats are widely regarded as “unsinkable” because they are made with a foam hull encased in fiberglass. They have been a part of American History since the Vietnam War where they were used by the Navy Seals, the United States Coast Guard for rescue, and river patrol missions. The Boston Whalers that we have were donated to us by the NYPD and they have since been incorporated into our training program. The Billion Oyster Project has also given grants to the program and that has vastly affected the extent to which students can be taught. The students are currently working on improving our small boat and overall operating skills. We work very hard to maintain these vessels and improve the vast educational opportunities given to us as students in high school. Aside from driving, we learn how to properly monitor our outboard engines while underway and what safety concerns are brought with having such a small vessel. Having such a small vessel helps with identifying how to navigate around bigger vessels and how to deal with wakes that could be problematic in open water. We use the cove as a safe area because of how well it works to keep us safe and how accessible it is in general. Having Boston Whalers is such an astounding factor that we can even further increase our knowledge that we will be leaving high school with and taking with us to the grand open world that follows.
