I’m currently a senior at the New York Harbor School, and I graduate in about 10 months. This past summer I had a lot of free time to think about any future careers of mine in the industry, or any schools and colleges I might be interested in. I looked into a lot of job positions and colleges that have to do with the Vessel Operations program and what we have done at the Harbor School. Some schools I looked into were SUNY Maritime and Maine Maritime. I also looked into a few schools in the East Bay Area in California. There was also a position available at a boathouse and pier in that area, required education was very small, but the job could be well done with the knowledge I’ve gained at Vessel Operations. Pay was good and many benefits were provided. This position was something that was taken really quickly and something that made me think about what I want to do after I leave the Harbor School. Maybe one day I’ll take a dock hand job similar to the one in Berkeley.
