Maine Maritime trip
This week a group of Vessel Operations and Marine Systems Technology students (sophomores and juniors) took a trip up to Maine Maritime Academy. The trip was fun and informative. Maine Maritime has their own tug on campus, Pentagoet, that the students run and maintain. Brass decorated Pentagoet's wheelhouse, making it look particularly fancy and professional. The Pentagoet was impressively kept, squeaky clean and well organized. In the engine room, each tool had a specific place and nothing was out of its place. Having been on and worked in boats around New York Harbor, I was very impressed by their organization. Looking at the engine room, I hope we can bring some of these ideas of an organization into our own waterfront and vessel maintenance shop. This trip was very helpful in the lengthy college process, and I know that we took a lot away from our experience at Maine Maritime Academy.
