Rear Admiral Erroll Brown
Erroll Brown was the first black Mariner to reach the status of admiral in the US Coast Guard. Born in Ocklawaha Florida in 1950, in 1968 he applied to the US Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut where he was accepted. During his time there, he earned a degree in marine engineering but this wouldn't be his first nor his last degree. Two years later he earned two degrees from the University of Michigan in marine engineering and naval operations. In June 2000 he became commander of the coast guards 13th district where he served until his retirement in 2005, serving 33 years in total.
I feel his accomplishments should be recognized because Erroll brown had the determination and drive to be the greatest in his field. He strived to be the best in his academics as well as his career. Over the course of his illustrious career he was the military assistant for the secretary of transportation, commander of Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic, chief of the Budget Division in the Office of the Chief of Staff, commanding officer of U.S. Coast Guard Integrated Support Command, and much much more. These accomplishmest demostrate to me as well as anyone with an interest in a maritime career there is nothing you cant do so long as you apply yourself and carry yourself with the mentality that there is nothing you cannot achieve when you put your mind to it.
